SPN 3360. History of the Spanish Language (3 credits) This course offers a panoramic study of the evolution of spoken Latin into modern Spanish. Topics covered will include: the major historical events that influenced the evolution of Spanish; phonological change; morphological and syntactic change; lexical borrowings from other languages; and semantic change. We will also study representative texts that illustrate the evolution of the Spanish language, and students will be assigned a similar text as an individual project. PREREQ: SPN 3110 , SPN 3120 and SPN 3150 ; or permission of instructor.
