HST 4580. Disease and Disaster in Latin America (3 credits) This course focuses on the ways in which seemingly “natural” disasters in Latin America’s history have very human roots. By considering topics like migrations, developmentalist initiatives, and social and economic injustices, students will learn about the ways that social, political, and economic developments intersect with the non-human world with often catastrophic results.
