ARS 2110. Evolution of USAF Air and Space Power (1 credit) The ARS 2110/ARS 2120 curriculum provides a survey course designed to help students evolve from an AFROTC General Military Course (GMC) cadet to an AFROTC Professional Officer Course (POC) cadet (or officer candidate). This course will examine general aspects of air and space power through a historical perspective. Using this perspective, the course covers a period from the first balloons and dirigibles to the space-age global positioning systems of today. The course provides historical examples to extrapolate the development of Air Force capabilities (previously referred to as core competencies) and missions (functions) to demonstrate the evolution of what has become today’s USAF air and space power. Furthermore, the course examines several fundamental truths associated with war in the third dimension (e.g., Principles of War and Tenets of Air and Space Power). As a whole, this course provides students with a knowledge level understanding of the general elements and employment of air and space power from an institutional, doctrinal, and historical perspective. In addition, we will discuss the Air Force Core Values, using operational examples. Students will conduct writing and briefing exercises that will introduce them to Air Force communication skills requirements. A mandatory Leadership Laboratory (LLAB) complements this course by providing leadership and followership experiences, giving students the opportunity to apply the leadership and followership principles of this course.
