ITC 3250. System Administration and Security (3 credits)


This course introduces advanced system administration technologies and discusses the effective use of security methods in system administration as well as example applications. It covers security tips, security philosophy, security issues, security assessment methods, cryptographic tools and authentication tools on the components of the computer systems, such as system booting, filesystems, user account management, process control, and so on. The course also investigates the computer network administration techniques to set up, extend, and maintain networks with efficient system security.  Laboratory work topics includes LVM, ACL, bootloader password encryption, routing, NFS, and network management and security. PREREQ: ITC 2080 and ( ITC 3070 or CSC 3360)
