OCCT 5400. Clinical Neuroscience (3 credits)


The course will focus on the structure and function of the central and peripheral nervous system, cognitive processes, and sensory perception which support human performance. Students will build on their knowledge of gross anatomy to explore the basic building blocks of neural anatomy. Students will gain an understanding of biochemistry and common neurological conditions. Students will use this knowledge to understand the impact of neurological dysfunction and the subsequent effects of neuroplasticity for clients with neurological conditions. Students will apply their understanding of foundational neuroanatomy to selecting and administering neurological assessments as well as interpreting their findings. Students will critique and apprise current literature that guides services among clients with neurological deficits. The aim of this course is to enable students to develop a solid foundation in neuroscience knowledge because it sets the foundation for selecting appropriate rehabilitative strategies.
