OCCT 5500. Research Methods (3 credits)


The ability to provide competent evidence informed practice requires one to understand and apply research. In this course, students will develop their understanding of research paradigms, ethics, and quantitative and qualitative approaches. Students will develop their knowledge and skills to locate and appraise current literature and interpret research findings. Students will receive an introduction to the scientific inquiry process and theories that guide research approaches in health sciences. This course will center around research topics, themes, and priorities identified by the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) which include Mental Health and well-being, health promotion, prevention & management of chronic conditions, technology and environmental supports, development and transition of individuals and families. Equitable access and use of community health services, and novel practice areas and approaches to occupational therapy service delivery. Emphasis will be given to intervention research, translational research, and health services research as well as research funding sources and tools specific to the discipline.   PREREQ: OCCT 5400, OCCT 5450, OCCT 5475, OCCT 5680, OCCT 5350
