OCCT 6500. Professional Ethics in Clinical Practice (2 credits)


Professional Ethics in Clinical Practice introduces students to philosophical reflection concerning some fundamental questions in ethics. This course is designed to prepare students to handle ethical issues commonly encountered in the evaluation and treatment of patients, including balancing the patients’ rights and practitioner’s values, ethics in governance, establishing professional boundaries, and issues related to billing, service delivery, and productivity. Students will learn to apply advanced problem solving and clinical reasoning to navigate ethical dilemmas commonly encountered in clinical practice. Students are encouraged to identify, articulate and think through their own positions concerning the nature and complexities of professional ethics. This course also aims to enhance students’ skills in critical reflection, the formulation and communication of their ideas.  PREREQ: OCCT 5400, OCCT 5450, OCCT 5475, OCCT 5680, OCCT 5350
