SWK 3910. Understanding Social Research (3 credits) This course introduces students to the social and behavioral science research processes and provides them with foundational research skills to inform their use of research in generalist social work practice. Focus is given to the ethics, standards, and methods of scientific inquiry in social research and evaluation. Particular emphasis is given to the effectiveness of organizational service delivery and social work interventions. It also introduces students to skills needed to search for research reports and to critically evaluate them to answer specific practice questions. Furthermore, the course focuses on skills for integrating information from multiple sources. Social work majors must complete this course with a minimum of grade C. PREREQ: MAT 1050 or 1070; SOC 1020, 1050, or 2090; PSY 1010; ECN 1000, 2020, or 2030; PLS 1000 or 1010; SWK 2000; SWK 2450; SWK 3480; SWK 3810; SWK 3850 and formal acceptance to the BSW Program
