HST 3140. The Gilded Age and Progressive Era (3 credits) In the years 1877-1919, the United States initiated a rapid transition form an agricultural nation to an industrialized one. This course will examine the construction of railroads, the rise of business tycoons, eruptions of labor unrest, and the arrival of millions of European immigrants. Two significant political movements, Populism and Progressivism, emerged to grapple with these changes and greatly influenced subsequent political ideas.
