RDG 5450. Reading Development and Assessment (3 credits) A study of the psychological factors in learning to read, in reading ability, in reading disabilities, and in the bases for instructional methods and materials in reading. Topics will range from perception and learning theory to the implications of cultural differences and language factors as they affect both the child’s learning to read and the teacher’s effective facilitation of this learning. A thorough overview of phonics will be explored within informal assessments. Strategies to support learning for English Language Learners will be explored. Field Experience required. PREREQ: Completion of RDG 5150 and RDG 5350 .
