CNS 5050. Counseling Skills and Techniques (3 credits) Students will learn counseling skills and techniques through classroom instruction and experiential activities. Counselor characteristics and behaviors that influence the counseling process will be addressed. This course focuses on the use of empathic listening and interviewing skills in developing therapeutic relationships with diverse clients in a multicultural society. The course also includes an orientation to wellness and prevention in the counseling process. PREREQ: Admission to the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program or the Professional School Counseling program.
