ENG 3040. Principles of Literary Study (3 credits) Required of all English majors. Preparation for the study of literature, including methods of literary research, writing about literature, and overview of literary theories. In a workshop environment, students in each section will read at least one common assigned literary text and will gain an advanced understanding of the conventions of scholarly writing in literary studies. PREREQ: “C” or better in ENG 1060 and “C” or better in one 2000-level literature course. Highly recommended during the first term of English major, minor, or concentration study.
