SWK 6800. International Social Work and Social Development (3 credits) This course exposes students to theories, perspectives, and strategies of social work practice and social development in less-industrialized, non-Western countries. Students will explore the historical, sociocultural, economic, and environmental factors that influence social service delivery in selected countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the South Pacific. The course will also explore the impact of globalization on social service delivery and strategies. The course will cover the roles social workers and social welfare organization play in the selected countries. Students will have opportunity to learn about various social work intervention strategies employed in the geographic regions covered. PREREQ: Admission to MSW program
