AIS 4610. American Indian Law (3 credits) This course will survey American Indian Law. It will include a historical look at sovereignty, nationalism, and jurisdictional issues and compare the federal government, state governments, and Native American tribes as these relationships relate to Native American rights and civil liberties. Self-determination, civil rights, and the religious rights of American Indian people will be examined. Through these laws and legal eras students will evaluate the importance and complexity of the law and lawmaking for American Indians.
