GGY 4015. Applications with Drones (3 credits) An overview of the licensing and Federal Aviation Administration Flight (FAA) Instructions for flying Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). The student will be prepared to take the FAA licensing exam at a designated testing site. The role of small unmanned aerial systems, commonly referred to as drones, is rapidly expanding in academia, government, industry, and entertainment. While there is currently limited legislation regarding the use of these devices for personal hobby purposes, there are federal certification requirements for commercial and government purposes. The purpose of Applications with Drones is twofold: 1) to introduce students to those concepts that are tested by federal and state tests in North Carolina for commercial certification, and 2) look at how sUAS’s are used to capture data, ostensibly for data analysis, and for other purposes. Permission of Instructor.
